New Release!

Domainr is a week old, and the pony’s prancing with a bunch of new features and bugfixes.

New:

• OpenSearch with suggestions (autocomplete)
• Support for sitemap.xml
• Registrars for Cook Islands (.ck), Georgia (.ge), Heard and McDonald Islands (.hm), Montserrat (.ms), Oman (.om), Peru (.pe) and Thailand (.th)
• List of subdomains on TLD pages (incidentally, Poland wins)
• Permalink on all result/info pages

Fixes:

• Correctly search phrases with repeated TLDs, like kingkong or broadcom.com
• Added minimum-length requirements to more domains
• Corrected mappings for .ng
• CSS fixes for Firefox 2
• Better display of error messages

Release Notes

Yesterday we shipped a new build of Domainr that combines a few tweaks to the user experience with a pile of new data. Highlights:

• Allow numbers in search (e.g. 12345.com)
• Display more information when a domain is not available
• Added minimum-length qualification to certain TLDs
• Added new registrars, including Armenia NIC (.am), Oyster (.ck), Dominio (.co), Libyan Spider ( .ly), CenpacNET (.nr), and Tonic (.to)

Post-Launch Update

Domainr's alpha launch has been smooth despite the occasional hiccup. You've been asking questions and giving us great feedback—keep it coming! Here are a few things already on our radar:

• IDN support, i.e. domain names with accents—it's a tad thorny due to how inconsistently it's currently implemented and supported.
• TLD qualifications, i.e. "why can't I register that.is (unless I'm Icelandic)?"—Domainr currently checks the DNS for domain availability (not possibility), which is a different beast entirely. We've got some interesting ideas for approaching it, however...

We very consciously chose to ship Domainr in this early/alpha-ish state so that you all could start using it immediately. You can be sure that we'll be iterating early and often, so stay tuned!
